Web3D Solar CAD & Simulation Engine
Engineered a Web3D CAD engine for solar rooftop design, optimising panel placement and simulation accuracy using environmental data.

Overview
Led the development of a Web3D CAD engine purpose-built for rooftop solar installations. The platform integrated roof geometry analysis, shading calculations, and automated panel placement to accelerate system design. Real-time simulations and energy estimations improved both accuracy and decision-making. The solution significantly reduced design time while improving installation efficiency.
- Outcome
- Faster rooftop design with simulation-informed decisions
Engineering
- 01Built a dual-input roof workflow: users could trace boundaries over aerial imagery, while a backend AI service could return outline coordinates.
- 02Converted the resulting outline coordinates into generated 3D building and roof geometry.
- 03Calculated roof-face pitch, orientation and azimuth so panels could be positioned correctly on sloped surfaces.
- Hardest problem
- The hardest part was turning a flat roof outline into dependable 3D geometry. Every sloped face required accurate pitch, orientation and azimuth calculations; errors at that stage would affect panel placement and the reliability of the downstream simulation.
- Stack
- Three.js · WebGL · Next.js · TypeScript · AI
